The National Endowment for the Humanities will be accepting applications for Summer Stipends between August 1 and the October 1, 2008, deadline.
"Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities.
Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, and other scholarly tools.
Summer Stipends support full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two months.
Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development.
Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars. Organizations are not eligible to apply" (http://www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/stipends.html).
Stipends consist of "$6,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. Recipients must work full-time on their projects for these two months, and may hold other research grants supporting the same project during this time."

Grant of the Week: Organic Farming Education and Outreach Grants
" The Organic Farming Research Foundation grants program is open to all applicants residing in Canada, Mexico and the United States. OFRF particularly encourages farmers, ranchers, researchers, and extension personnel to consider applying for funding" (http://ofrf.org/grants/apply_education&outreach.html).
Upcoming proposal deadlines: July 15, 2008 and November 15, 2008.
"OFRF will consider proposals to:
Develop Media
* Develop or update instructional media for organic production systems;
* Develop educational media on specific organic production or marketing challenges;
* Develop and publish educational production or marketing media for farmers interested in transitioning to organic production systems;
* Conduct surveys on organic production or marketing-related topics (gather and analyze existing information contrasted to generating new information)
Conduct Interactive Outreach
* Conduct participatory training in some aspect of organic production;
* Organize farmer-to-farmer mentoring, support groups, or programs;
* Support cooperative extension workshops or meetings on organic topics;
* Support a conference that specifically emphasizes organic-related issues;
* Provide training in organic agriculture for professional information providers (e.g. extension personnel, crop advisers);
* Develop training sessions and tools for organic inspectors. "

Grant of the Week: Open Meadows Foundation
This grantmaker funds, "projects that are led by and benefit women and girls" and that "do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age or ability."
Specifically they're interested in funding projects which:
" * Are designed and implemented by women and girls;
* Reflect the diversity of the community served by the project in both its leadership and organization;
* Promote building community power;
* Promote racial, social, economic and environmental justice;
* Have limited financial access or have encountered obstacles in their search for funding."
Grants do not exceed $2,000.
Organizational budget should not exceed $150,000.

GIC Receives UW Libraries Friends Grant
For the second year in row, the Grants Information Collection of Memorial Library at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will receive a Collection Development Grant from the Friends of the University of Wisconsin--Madison Libraries. This year the generously given $1,100 will go toward the purchase of much needed subject-specific grant directories, the 21st edition of the National Directory of Nonprofit Organizations, and more!
