Grant of the Week: NEH Summer Stipends for 2009

The National Endowment for the Humanities will be accepting applications for Summer Stipends between August 1 and the October 1, 2008, deadline.

"Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities.

Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, and other scholarly tools.

Summer Stipends support full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two months.

Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development.

Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars. Organizations are not eligible to apply" (http://www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/stipends.html).

Stipends consist of "$6,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. Recipients must work full-time on their projects for these two months, and may hold other research grants supporting the same project during this time."

Grant of the Week: WAGE Individual Research Awards

The Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE) invites applications from Wisconsin Madison faculty and qualified members of the academic staff for the "individual grant competition to support research projects on globalization and the international economy" (http://wage.wisc.edu).

Available for use: June 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009
Deadline for application: Noon on Friday, April 18, 2008

This call for proposals "aim[s] to support research projects that explore the consequences of and challenges posed by economic globalization and its governance. "

Grant of the Week: Graduate Fellowships in Alternatives in Scientific Research

The International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) is "dedicated to the development and implementation of scientifically valid alternatives to the use of animals in research, product testing, and education. IFER is also committed to programs designed to increase pubic awareness of such alternatives" (http://www.ifer.org/).

Application for Graduate Fellowships in Alternatives in Scientific Research is "open to students enrolled in master's and Ph.D. programs in the sciences, humanities, psychology, and journalism."

Awards "provide up to $12,500 annually in stipendiary support and up to 2,500 for supplies per year. Fellowships are renewable annually for up to three years."

Deadline for application is March 15, 2008.

Grant of the Week: Nonprofit Sector Collaborative Research Minigrants

The Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management is now accepting applications for its Nonprofit Sector Collaborative Research Minigrant Program.

Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded for successful proposals. Application deadline is November 16, 2007.

"Who can apply? A research team that includes (a) a university faculty or staff member and/or staff at a research-focused organization, and (b) staff at one or more nonprofit organizations that will participate in and contribute to the research endeavor."

"Applications are encouraged that propose research that advances understanding of nonprofit organizations or the nonprofit sector, makes a contribution to the growing literature on nonprofits, and produces knowledge of the sectors with implications beyond specific organizations studied."
